Somerville Area

Somerville Elementary School (k-5) and Somerville Road anchor this popular Ridgewood neighborhood. While there are no absolute boundaries to this neighborhood, the map below gives you a general idea. North/South Pleasant Avenue and North/South Van Dien Avenue are the main north-south thoroughfares and East Ridgewood Avenue is the main east-west route.

The Duck Pond, part of the Saddle River County Park, provides recreation to the area with fishing, shelters, biking, a playground and a walking trail. Camp Sunshine & Camp Snowflake are based in the park and offer supervised recreational programs here.

Homes in the Somerville area are quite varied in size and price. Brookside Avenue has many pristine pre-1900 Victorian homes, although it is possible to purchase a home here for under $500,000.  The traditional colonial is the norm here, although split levels, ranches and cape cods can be found depending on what street you’re on. There is also Hopper Ridge, a distinctively modern townhouse development built in the 1980′s with a clubhouse and pool.

Ridgewood High School is located in the heart of the Somerville area. Facilities offered include tennis courts and sports stadium with artificial turf and running track. There are also tennis courts located across the street from Somerville Elementary School. Valley Hospital, a highly ranked healthcare provider, is located on the north side. Graydon Pool, the Ridgewood Library, the Ridgewood Borough Hall and the Ridgewood Band Shell are clustered near the northwest corner. The band shell has a free music series every summer featuring jazz, classical, country and 50′s rock performers.
